Haryana Announces 100% EV Tax Exemption: In a big push towards cleaner mobility, the Haryana Cabinet has permitted a 100% exemption from motor vehicle tax for the registration of brand new electric vehicles, EVs that are priced up to ₹30 lakh. The idea is to speed up EV adoption, cut down pollution and make electric vehicles more pocket friendly for people across the state.

The Cabinet meeting, chaired by Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini also sanctioned a 1% rebate in motor vehicle tax for qualifying non-transport vehicles that are registered in the name of women. It is meant to further push the state’s focus on sustainable mobility along with women centric incentives.
“The decision will help increase the use of electric vehicles in Haryana, thereby curbing pollution in the long run and improving air quality,” said Additional Chief Secretary, Transport Department, Dr Raja Sekhar Vundru.
What Has Changed?
Until now, Haryana offered a one-time 20% exemption on motor vehicle tax for electric and battery-operated vehicles.
Under the newly approved policy, buyers of eligible electric vehicles will receive a full (100%) exemption from motor vehicle tax at the time of registration. While the concession has now been extended to 100% on electric vehicles, it remains unchanged at 20% for CNG vehicles. The existing concession for CNG vehicles remains unchanged.

Which Vehicles Are Eligible?
According to the Cabinet decision, the exemption applies to:
- Electric two-wheelers
- Electric three-wheelers
- Electric four-wheelers
- Vehicles with an ex-showroom price of up to ₹30 lakh registered in Haryana.
1% Tax Rebate for Women
The Haryana government has also approved a 1% rebate in motor vehicle tax, calculated on the ex-showroom price, for new non-transport vehicles registered in the name of women, provided the vehicle’s price does not exceed ₹20 lakh. The measure is intended to encourage vehicle ownership among women. The approval also follows the state’s earlier plans to boost EV infrastructure, with the procurement of 500 electric buses and other broader efforts to push electric mobilit.
“The decision will help inculcate self-reliance among women, as providing a tax rebate would serve as an incentive for women to register vehicles in their own names, thereby promoting their independence and participation in economic activities,” said Vundru
