The main roles in the movie are played by Ishaan Khatter, Vishal Jethwa and Janhvi Kapoor. The movie is backed by Karan Johar and Adar Poonawalla under Dharma Productions, so the project already had big names behind it.

Homebound Story

Homebound is set during the time of COVID-19 pandemic in rural India. The makers said the story talks about ambition, friendship and social inequality. It shows how tough life can be for people who are pushed aside in society.

The movie takes inspiration from Basharat Peer’s New York Times article Taking Amrit Home. It shows the childhood friendship of a Muslim and Dalit boy. Both of them chase the dream of becoming police officers because that job gives them dignity they always missed in society because of their surnames.

Homebound OTT release Date

The film is releasing in India on September 26, 2025. Posters have already come out and the makers revealed that after its theatre run, the film will stream on Netflix. While the exact online release date is not shared yet, reports say it may be in November 2025. This is because most films in India take around eight weeks after theatre release to arrive on streaming platforms.

Calling the film “Ghaywan’s labour of love”, producer Karan Johar hoped that the film would “find a home in a million hearts across the world”.
