How to Send Video Messages on Facetime:  You can now transmit a video message to someone unable to receive a FaceTime call. This can assist you in communicating time-sensitive information or sharing fleeting moments that you desire to preserve in perpetuity.

You can record a video message using the Record Video option if your call is rejected or not answered. You can apply various effects, use portrait mode, and observe your video message prior to sending it to the intended recipient.

Apple made it abundantly obvious when iOS 17 was introduced that this new version of iOS prioritises user customization and personalization based on their needs and preferences. Numerous new features, such as the Contact Poster, which allows you to create a new way to introduce yourself each time you contact someone, contribute to this goal. You can select your preferred image, memoji, or monogram, in addition to how you and your name appear.

Likewise, iOS 17 allows you to prevent sensitive content from being displayed on your device. This can prevent private messages from invading your privacy, allowing you to take the necessary precautions beforehand. iOS 17 also includes significant updates to FaceTime and Messages, including the ability to send a video message to someone who is unavailable and unable to accept your call.

Thus, you or someone else can catch up on essential messages and moments even when unavailable or preoccupied. If you too wish to send a FaceTime video message when a recipient does not answer your call, then here is how to do so on your iPhone.

How to customize the privacy of your Contact Photo and Poster on iPhone with iOS 17: Mastering Privacy

How to send a FaceTime video message to a contact who is unavailable on iOS 17

Follow the steps below to transmit a FaceTime video message to a recipient who is unable to accept your call. They will receive the message on their iPhones and can use it to catch up on recent events or significant moments. This feature requires iOS 17 regardless of whether you are sending or receiving a message. If you have not yet updated your device, navigate to Settings > General > Software Update. Follow the instructions below after installing the most recent available software update for your device.

Option 1: Sending a video message to an unavailable recipient.

You only have the option to send a video message if the recipient cannot accept your call. This option will not appear if your contact is rejected after being accepted. Follow the procedures below if the other party did not answer your call.

When someone is unable to answer your call or declines it, you have the following options available.

This will enable you to initiate a second Facetime call so that you can attempt to contact the user again.

This option will enable you to record a video message for the recipient in question. We’ll use this feature to record our video message.

This option will end the current contact so that you can return to the FaceTime homepage.

This icon in the top right corner of the screen can be used to observe additional call information. On this screen, you can add more participants, generate a link that can be shared, call again, or even suppress join requests.

Tap Record Video to create a video message and send it to the recipient.

A video recording will begin automatically when you select this option, which is indicated by a countdown.

To customise various aspects of your video message, tap the Pause icon.

You can also tap Cancel in the upper-left corner to cancel a video recording.

Use the Effects () icon in the bottom-left corner after tapping Pause to apply effects to your video message.

You have a choice between the following options.

This option enables you to attach and overlay various fitness-related stickers on your video message, such as information about your fitness objectives, medals, and more.

Option will enable you to communicate with the recipient in the video using a memoji instead.

This option allows you to apply various filters when transmitting a FaceTime video message to someone who is unavailable, similar to a FaceTime call.

Text: This option allows you to add and superimpose text over your video message.

This option allows you to add shape presets for the iPhone’s Digital Touch feature.

Stickers: This option allows you to add installed stickers and memoji stickers to your video message.

Stickers 2: This is a new category for Live Stickers that you create using Visual Look Up and your own photographs. With subsequent iOS 17 updates, we expect this category to be refined and incorporated into one of the others.

This option will enable you to include emoji stickers in your video message.

Other supported third-party applications: Additional third-party applications that support FaceTime features will appear after this option.

After applying the necessary effects, you can apply the portrait effect to your video message by clicking the Portrait icon.

You can also alternate between the rear and front cameras by tapping the icon in the lower-right corner of the screen.

Tap the Shutter icon at the bottom of your screen when you’re ready to record the message.

Now, record the relevant message as required. While recording a message, you can alternate between the front and rear cameras using the same icon ().

Tap the Stop icon at the bottom of your screen when you are finished.

Now you can select the Play icon to preview the recorded video message.

If you’re not satisfied with the recorded message, select Retake to record it again.

You can also save the message to your Photos app by selecting Save in the upper-right corner of the display.

As shown below, when you are ready to transmit the message, tap the transmit icon at the bottom of your screen.

And this is how you can send an unavailable recipient a FaceTime video message.

Option 2: Receiving and observing a video message.

What happens if someone decides to send you a video message in lieu of a FaceTime call, and how can you view it? Let’s find out!

When someone sends you a FaceTime video message when you were unavailable to receive their call, the video will be displayed beneath the missed FaceTime contact, as shown below.

As of the writing of this post, the video does not appear in the Phone application. We anticipate that this behaviour will alter with the upcoming iOS 17 updates.

You will also receive a notification for the same event, which, when tapped, will open the FaceTime app.

Tap the Video button to view the video on your iPhone.Tap the Play icon to begin watching the video.

Tap Message to send a message to the contact about the video message, if desired.

Instead of FaceTime, select FaceTime to initiate a FaceTime call with the contact.

If necessary, you can also use the icon at the bottom to scrub the video to a specific period.

To save the video message to the Photos library, tap Save in the upper-right corner.

After viewing the message, tap FaceTime to return to the main screen.

And this is how you can view and manage FaceTime video messages if you were unavailable to answer a call.

Who can send you a FaceTime video message?

Anyone who can reach you on FaceTime, regardless of whether they are in your contacts, can send you a FaceTime video message. If you do not desire to receive messages from someone, you can block them after receiving a missed call or video message.

Unfortunately, as of the writing of this post, there is no way to disable the FaceTime app’s ability to receive video communications. This may change with future updates, and we will maintain this post up-to-date in the event that it does.

We trust this post has acquainted you with the FaceTime process for sending and receiving video messages when you or a contact are unavailable. If you have any further inquiries, feel free to contact us through the remarks section below.
