Huge setback to BJP as LJP decides to go solo in Jharkhand Assembly polls

In what could be seen as a huge blow to the Bharatiya Janata Party in Jharkhand, the Lok Janshakti Party national president Chirag Paswan on November 12 tweeted that the party is ready to contest the coming assembly poll in Jharkhand on its own.

The last decision to contest elections in Jharkhand was to be taken by the state unit. The Lok Janshakti Party Jharkhand state unit has decided that the party will contest 50 seats alone. The first list of party candidates will be announced by this evening, Mr Paswan said in a tweet.


BJP has announced candidates for most of the seats in the state which the LJP had sought from the saffron party as a partner of the NDA. Election for the 81-member Jharkhand Assembly will be held in five phases beginning on November 30.

On Monday, Paswan had emphasised that LJP will not accept seats given to it in as “tokens” this time.

BJP released its first list of 52 candidates on Sunday for the assembly polls.
