Human Rights law came into existence in September 1993, 28 in India. The government of India constituted the National Human Rights Commission on October 12, 1993.

This day is celebrated every year on December 10 to recognize and empower human rights. It mainly includes economic, social, cultural rights and international commitments on civil and political rights.

Human Rights Day Theme

According to the United Nations, this year’s theme is – ‘Youth Standing Up for Human Rights’. UN believes that the participation of youth is an essential element to achieve sustainable development for everyone. Also, young people are always taken as major drivers of social, economic and political transformation.

Human Rights and its commission

Human rights are the right to live, liberty, equality and respect of any human being. The Indian Constitution not only guarantees this right.

Human rights law date September 28, 1993. This Commission has made its recommendations to the Government to protect the rights of ordinary citizens, children, women, elderly human rights, and people of the LGBT community in the country.

Human Rights History

  • This day has been celebrated since the day the United Nations adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in 1948.
  • For the first time, 48 countries celebrated this day with the United Nations General Assembly.
  • In 1950, the General Assembly passed resolution 423 (v) and urged all countries and institutions to adopt it.
  • In December 1993, it was announced by UNGA to celebrate it annually.

There are several rights are included in the jurisdiction of the Commission such as economic, social and cultural rights.
