International Volunteer Day (IVD) 2019: International Volunteer Day is celebrated each year by the UN General Assembly on December 5, 2019. Therefore, it is a unique chance for volunteers and organisations to encourage their efforts, promote their work, share their values among communities, non-governmental organisation (NGOs), United Nations agencies, government authorities, and the private sector.

It contributes to peace and development by advocating for volunteers and working with partners to integrate volunteering into development programmes.

From childhood to adulthood people love to participate in several activities as a volunteer to gain knowledge and to develop a skill. So, to make the world better, several people come forward to volunteer their time and skills and help to improve the love of others.

International Volunteer Day 2019: Theme

The theme for International Volunteer Day (IVD) 2019, “Volunteer for an inclusive future”, signifies that volunteers contributing to inclusion, and Sustainable Development Goal 10, hence, it aims to reduce inequality within and among countries.

Volunteering is for those who are often excluded, to concretely impact their own lives and play a constructive role in their communities by volunteering their time and skills. Through volunteerism, communities in the whole world experience strengthened solidarity and inclusion.

International Volunteer Day: History

In December 1985, the United Nations General Assembly first started to celebrate International Volunteer Day every year on December 5, 2019. For continuous human development, these volunteers use online volunteering services and prepare an action plan.

 International Volunteer Day: Objectives

  • It aims to demonstrate their volunteering experiences, best practices and prepare a plan to strengthen their capacities of work for promoting human development by their skills and knowledge sharing.
  • To instill and mobilize the general public internationally on the Internet.
  • To acknowledge the winning individual volunteer to facilitate their nomination for the UNV online volunteering award.
  • To end poverty, gain comprehensive primary education, promote gender equality, lessen the childbirth rate, etc.
