A local court has convicted two persons Akbar Ismail Choudhary and Anique Shafique Syeed in the twin-bombing at Lumbini Park and Gokul Chat in Hyderabad in 2007. However, of the seven accused, Mohammed Saddiq Ahmed Sheikh, and Farooq have been acquitted.

Reacting to the verdict, Asaduddin Owaisi, the President All India Majlis-E-Ittehadul Muslimeen Party, has said that the outcome still has failed to being justice to the families of victims. Taking it to his respective Twitter handle, Owaisi said, “FAROOQ & SADIQ have been in prison from 2009 & after 9 years Court finds them NOT GUILTY acquits them & their Lawyer ABDUL Azeem tells me evidence was circumstantial & eyewitnesses who where found after 1 yr of offence.”

“No closure/Justice for victims families. Pain continues,” added Owaisi.

While the other two accused, Riyaz Bhatkal and his brother Iqbal Bhatkal, are missing, the quantum of punishment for the two convicts will be announced on Monday. The judgment on the involvement of Tarik Annum will also be pronounced on Monday.

The accused were charged under section 302 (murder) and other relevant provisions of the IPC and sections of the Explosive Substances Act. During the trail, over 160 witnesses were examined and cross-examined.

The alleged IM operatives had planted three improvised explosive devices (IEDs) in the city on August 25, 2007, of which two went off, claiming 44 lives, while 68 were left injured. Of the three, one unexploded bomb placed under a foot-over-bridge at Dilsukhnagar was recovered by the police.
