Sultanpur: Sultanpur Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Member of Parliament (MP) Varun Gandhi embroiled himself in a fresh controversy recently. In a video, that is now viral on the social media, Gandhi can be heard telling people, “You don’t need to be scared of Monu or Tonu, I am Sanjay Gandhi’s son, I make these people untie my shoes.”
The veiled attack targeting the Sultanpur Mahagathbandhan candidate Chandrabhadra Singh alias Sonu Singh, came when the Sultanpur MP was campaigning for his mother Menaka Gandhi who is fighting elections from his constituency.

Gandhi, in another rally, went on to target the Congress party, he said, “I have ensured national identity to Sultanpur. It was earlier known as Amethi’s neighbouring district.” Claiming that he was the only MP who did not take any salary, Gandhi said, “If you feel poverty and it pinches, bear it. But if you elect a criminal, it will pinch more.”
In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the saffron party exchanged the constituency of the Gandhi mother-son duo. Varun is contesting from his mother’s current constituency Pilibhit, while Maneka is contesting from Sultanpur, Varun’s constituency.
The elections in the Sultanpur constituency will take place during the VI phase of the general elections on May 12.
