IIT Bombay issues circular for students, no anti-national activities on campus

Students, faculty members and employees of IIT Bombay are continuously protesting, denouncing the CAA and condemning the attack at JNU since January 5, 2020.

The administration of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Bombay, has issued a circular on Tuesday, January 28, 2020, asking all students not to participate in any ‘anti-national’ activities amid continuing protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act.

A circular highlights the code of conduct, a violation of which will cause strict disciplinary action. A similar circular issued for students as a week before issued for staff and employees, mentioning to hold back themselves from public statements that can ‘embarrass the relations’ between the institute and the central government.

Students, faculty members and employees of IIT Bombay are continuously protesting, denouncing the CAA and condemning the attack at JNU since January 5, 2020.

At present, student protestors have been conducting a film festival with a theme ‘liberty, justice and citizenship’.

Meanwhile, the dean of student affairs issued a circular issued said, “Residents shall not participate in any anti-national, anti-social and or any undesirable activities.”

It further added that whichever activity will disturb the hostel environment is strictly prohibited, even if faculty are included.

The circular also said that without getting permission from the dean of student affairs, posters and pamphlets cannot be distributed.
