Independence Day of Bangladesh 2023: Bangladesh’s Independence Day is annually observed on March 26. Bangladesh’s national holiday commemorates the country’s 1971 declaration of independence from Pakistan. Sheikh Mujibur Rahman proclaimed Bangladesh’s independence from Pakistan, formerly known as East Pakistan and West Pakistan, on the morning of March 26, 1971. Commemorating that historic day in 1971, the day is marked by parades, speeches, fairs, and other ceremonies.

HISTORY OF INDEPENDENCE DAY OF BANGLADESH

On August 14, 1947, during the Partition of India, Pakistan gained independence from Britain and was separated from India. Following this, the region that is now Bangladesh was referred to as East Bengal and then East Pakistan.

East Pakistan (Bangladesh) fought for equal status for their language (Bengali) with Pakistan’s official language (Urdu) and for equal treatment within the union from 1947 to 1971. In the end, they believed that the geographical distance and cultural differences between them and West Pakistan made independence both natural and just.

Following Bangladesh’s declaration of independence, a nine-month guerilla war ensued, resulting in the loss of 100,000 lives. Pakistan committed numerous atrocities against the people of Bangladesh in an effort to maintain their subjugation, but India ultimately intervened on the side of Bangladesh and gave them the victory. The war concluded on December 16, 1971.

Independence Day is celebrated with numerous parades, fairs, and concerts in Bangladesh. Many politicians deliver patriotic speeches, which are broadcast on t.v. and radio, and patriotic singing also abounds. The streets of Dhaka and other cities are decked out with Bangladeshi flags, and the whole nation is in a celebratory mood.

In Bangladesh, celebrations of independence include parades, speeches, fairs, and ceremonial events commemorating the country’s liberation. A salute of thirty-one gunshots is fired each morning.
