IndiGo and Star Air Purnea Airport: Purnea is finally getting its own regular flights again. IndiGo and Star Air will both start flying from Purnea airport on September 15, the same day the airport gets its official opening under the government’s UDAN plan. IndiGo is starting a direct flight to Kolkata, while Star Air will connect the city to Ahmedabad.

The Bihar government had already said earlier that they want to make 15 airports in the state, not just the three that are working right now. They even put the plan in the state budget in March and kept ₹11,500 lakh for it, reported ET. Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary also said that Purnea airport, which used to be a defence base, will be ready for commercial flights soon after the makeshift terminal is done.

IndiGo is becoming the first airline to begin commercial flights from Purnea. They will fly three times every week on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday with their ATR aircraft. Old history of Purnea airport

The airport is located at Chunapur, which is about 10 km from the main Purnea town. It was first set up after the 1962 Indo-China war for defence work. Civil flights did start here in 1976 but stopped just two years later in 1978. They again came back for a short time in 2012 with flights to Patna and Kolkata, but that also lasted only a year.
