In a shocking incident, an alleged ‘Sub Inspector’ in Delhi Police can be heard saying that he can shoot anyone who doesn’t have an Aadhaar card or any other ID proof. An audio recording has surfaced on the internet wherein activist Shabnam Hashmi can be heard talking to a man who describes himself as SI at Lajpat Nagar police station
The officer on call even says that the police have an “Abhiyaan” to “ghero and maaro” (surround and kill) anyone without Aadhaar card or ID proof.
When asked who is running the Abhiyaan, the officer says it has been directed to all police stations.
When Newsd contacted Hashmi, she authenticated the audio recording, but the identity of the policeman is yet to be known. Hashmi also said that the government and police department must answer about this ‘Abhiyaan’ that the police on the other side of the call is claiming.
The conversation between Hashmi and the alleged policeman can be heard below:
The development took place when Shabnam Hashmi called the police after she received a call from a woman working at one of her sewing training centers. The woman’s husband was told to appear at the police station late at night. Hashmi called the police to ask why the man has been called late at night and if it is not urgent, can he visit the police station in the morning? But what follows is nothing less than a shocker to the activist.
According to Hashmi, the number on which the conversation happened is still showing as that of a police officer on Truecaller, but “nothing can be done if they choose to delete the records,” she said.
