International Day of Charity 2019: History, significance and celebration of the day

Every year International Day of Charity is marked on September 5 to commemorate the death anniversary of Mother Teresa and also to aware people about the importance of charity.

The charity helps to support the people in need and this day promotes, recognize charity and motivate people to help poor and needy ones. The day also focuses on the role played by several charitable organizations around the world.

History of International Day of Charity

In 2012, International Day of Charity was declared by the UN General Assembly. Also, the day was created by the Hungarian Civil society initiative in 2011 with the support of the Hungarian parliament and government. To celebrate the International Day of Charity, September 5 is selected as the date because it commemorates the anniversary of passing away of Mother Teresa who worked for the needy people to overcome poverty, distress, and suffering of the poorest in the world.

On 15 September, the agenda that was adopted on Sustainable Development, the United Nation recognizes and focuses on eradicating poverty in all its forms and dimensions including extreme poverty which is the greatest global challenge and an indispensable requirement for sustainable development. As per the agenda, the focus is on the needs of the poorest and most vulnerable section in society.

The United Nations invites all the member states, several organizations, businessman, citizens to celebrate this day by giving a donation or by contributing to charity efforts in any possible way.

In fact, the UN also encourages charity donations, driving education, awareness campaign which focus on the importance of charity.
