IPL 2023: As a result of Kane Williamson’s exclusion from the 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL), Gujarat Titans are in a bind.

On March 31, the New Zealand star suffered a knee injury while fielding against Chennai Super Kings in the season opener.

On April 2, the Titans confirmed his dismissal.

These are three potential replacements for Williamson.

Kusal Mendis

The Sri Lankan opener and wicketkeeper, has been one of the world’s most improved Twenty20 batsmen over the past year. Since being a regular member of the white-ball squad, Mendis has taken to the opening position like a fish to water. After a magnificent T20 World Cup, Mendis maintained his form in the inaugural SA20 for the Pretoria Capitals and played aggressively in both Tests against New Zealand. In three matches for Sri Lanka in 2018, Mendis has scored 152 runs. Not only would the opening batter be a wonderful option for the Titans at the top of the order, but he would also be a wicket-keeping option in the side.

Tom Kohler-Cadmore

He has worked harder than any other batsman in recent years for an England national T20s selection. The 28-year-old has been in phenomenal form in T20 tournaments around the globe. Kohler-Cadmore scored 324 runs for Sharjah Warriors in the ILT20 and 325 runs for Peshawar Zalmi in the Pakistan Super League at 158 and 160 respectively. Kohler-Cadmore, who has been creating havoc in the middle overs while batting at No. 3, might be an excellent addition to the GT lineup with Hardik Pandya and David Miller.

Travis Head

It is questionable whether Cricket Australia (CA) will give him with a NOC in consideration of the World Test Championship (WTC) final and the Ashes, but if it does, Head would be a no-brainer. Indian fans have seen more than enough of what the left-hander can do with the bat in ODIs and Tests, and with his useful off-spin as well, Head is a complete T20 package, and the Titans might also consider him.
