Bhojpuri Commentators Criticized for ‘Offensive Language’: While commentating during the match between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) of the Indian Premier League 2024 on Saturday, March 23, Bhojpuri commentators faced backlash.
Heinrich Klaasen took KKR’s costliest buy, Mitchell Starc, over the midwicket boundary for a huge six in the penultimate over of SRH’s run chase. By coming around the wicket, Starc tried to cramp Klaasen’s space, but he found the middle of the bat.
Klaasen was lauded for playing the stupendous shot by Bhojpuri commentators. However, the fans did not agree with the way they described the shot, and they slammed the commentators. In his tweet, the fan tagged Bhojpuri actors Ravi Kishan and Manoj Tiwari, as well as Jay Shah, the BCCI secretary. The fan called for the commentators’ “sacking”.

Such cheap commentary with double meaning lines will sabotage the entire purpose of promoting Bhojpuri! A fan attacked Bhojpuri commentators for being “utterly disgusting”. The culture of Bhojpuri has been downgraded by Bhojpuri movies, songs, and social media content, according to another fan.
The Knight Riders won the match by 4 runs. Klaasen scored 63 runs off 29 balls with 8 sixes, but his knock was in vain. With 19 runs needed off the last over, the Sunrisers couldn’t overcome their deficit.
After scoring an unbeaten 64 and taking two crucial wickets of Abhishek Sharma and Abdul Samad, Andre Russell of the Knight Riders won the Player of the Match award.
