Islamic State car bomb attack kills six, injures 15 in Baghdad

At least six civilians were killed and 15 others injured in eastern Baghdad on Thursday in a car bomb blast claimed by Islamic State, Iraqi Police officials said.

ISIS-linked Amaq news agency said a parked car loaded with explosives in the al-Obeidi area had targeted a gathering of Shi’ite Muslims.

The car was parked near an outdoor fruit and vegetable market in a mostly Shiite neighborhood. Seven civilians and two policemen were killed, while at least 15 other people were wounded, Fox News reported.

The series of bombing carried out by Islamic State in Baghdad over the past week have killed more than 60 civilians. ISIS is repeatedly targeting the Shiite neighbourhoods in Iraq for the last two months.

A week ago, A series of bomb blasts have killed 29 people and wounded 50 in central Baghdad’s al-Sinak market.

Iraqi security forces have teamed with Kurdish Peshmerga fighters, Sunni Arab tribesmen and Shia militiamen to fight ISIS. Iraqi Prime Minister had pledged that ISIS will be driven out within three months.
