The Turkish authorities on Wednesday identified the gunman responsible for the attack on an elite nightclub that killed 39 people celebrating New Year, the foreign minister said.
“The identity of the person responsible for the Istanbul attack has been established,” Mevlut Cavusoglu told Anadolu news agency during a televised interview. He did not give any further details.
It comes as the Turkish parliament voted to extend the country’s state of emergency following the attack on New Year’s Day.
At least 39 people, most of them foreign tourists, were shot dead early on Sunday morning by a lone gunman who remains at large.
The state of emergency is being extended by at least three months.
