The second week of the new year 2020 is here and this week its Sunny Singh and Sonnalli Seygall’s Jai Mummy Di got released.
The movie is based on Saanjh Bhalla (Sonnalli Seygall) and Puneet Khanna (Sunny Singh), who are next-door neighbors and secret high-school sweethearts. But, their mothers, Pinky (Poonam Dhillon) and Laali (Supriya Pathak) are constantly at loggerheads owing to an old unsettled score, which turns out to be the biggest hurdle in their relationship.
Although the movie is flawed but still the credit giving part is to writer-director Navjot Gulati for ushering the audience into his world of ‘Jai Mummy Di’ with some clichéd yet laughable one-liners and hilarious supporting characters.
The problem is with the sluggish story writing which goes off the track before the interval and never comes back on it even after the intermission. Another highlighted point is that the movie has too many songs that it becomes difficult for one to sit through the film.
On the performances front, Sunny Singh plays a love-struck momma’s boy. However, he has his own moments in the film but they don’t last for too long and they go off a little early. Sonnalli Seygall is seen in a glamorous avatar but couldn’t go into the skin of it.
It’s not one of the finest work of senior actresses Supriya Pathak and Poonam Dhillon as the poor narrative has wasted such great actors.
Overall, Jai Mummy Di works only for a certain point in time. It is a bland and boring film with only the glam and music factor making it a bit bearable.
