Jamia Millia Islamia held Academic Council meet online; releases new academic calendar

In the meeting, many academic issues arising from the disruption and major changes in university education caused by Covid-19 was discussed.

Jamia Millia Islamia held Academic Council (AC) meeting through ‘Google Meet’ on May 6, 2020. Vice-Chancellor Prof. Najma Akhtar, Registrar A.P. Siddiqui (IPS), Deans, and other members of the council attended the meeting.

The four hours-long marathon AC meeting was the first in the history of the university to be conducted online.

In the meeting, many academic issues arising from the disruption and major changes in university education caused by Covid-19 was discussed. AC has decided to adopt the new guidelines issued by the University Grants Commission (UGC).

Schedule for new admissions (2020-21):

  • The deadline for submitting the online application form for the 2020-21 session has been extended to May 31, 2020
  • The entrance examination will start from August 1 to the end of August 2020
  • The new academic session will begin on September 1, 2020.

Some of the major decisions made at the meeting:

The online classes will continue until May 31, 2020. It was earlier scheduled to be completed on April 30, 2020. The deadline for submitting assignments has been extended to June 5, 2020.

All teachers are requested to upload the assignment marks/internal assessment marks on the website of the Controller of Examinations of the university before June 15, 2020.

Examination for only final semester/year students will be taken offline at the university from July 01, 2020, to 31st July 2020. Students are requested to submit the online exam form as soon as possible.

Summer vacations will begin from June 15 to June 30, 2020.

The university will reopen from August 1, 2020, and start classes for regular students.
