Famous Urdu poet of Mughal era, Mirza Ghalib, to get its first mural at Nagpada, Mumbai. A huge mural of Ghalib about 42ftx10ft will be unveiled this week to restore context to the iconic Mughal poet.
BMC officials along with poet Javed Akhtar, Gulzar and Actor Naseeruddin Shah who did an acclaimed tv series on the poet will present the mural. Not only this the session would be then continued at Byculla Zoo where Puja Gaitonde will sing Ghazals of the poet and Suhail Akhtar Warsi will present commentaries.
Though many films and serials popularized Ghalib, they also created an image of a drunkard and a gambler who would drink and enjoy mujras . This mural depicts Ghalib in a historically important context,” said local corporator Rais Shaikh who initiated the beautification of Nagpada of which the BMC-sponsored mural is an important part.
Urdu journalist-author Saeed Hameed hoped that the mural will not only serve as a selfie point for the people but it will also create a sense of curiosity among them to know the poet and his journey of life.
Shinde who has before sculpted a lot of murals of God has said that this project has taught him in many ways.
