In a sudden turn of events, JD(U) on Wednesday expelled Vice President Prashant Kishor and Party’s General Secretary Pavan Varma. The move came a day after a war of words between Kishor and party chief Nitish Kumar over the contentious Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).

In a statement, party General Secretary KC Tyagi said, “As both the party leaders have been broken the party discipline, they are being expelled from the primary membership of the party.”

Kishor and Varma have been critical of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar for his stand on the CAA. JD-U had supported the bill both in the Loka Sabha and the Rajya Sabha.

Both of them have attacked the Chief Minister for his decision to support the CAA.

A few days ago, Kishor had challenged the Home Minister to implement CAA and NRC in the same “chronology” that he had “audaciously announced”.

Meanwhile, JDU leader Ajay Alok said the master poll strategist, who became the party’s number two after Nitish Kumar soon after joining it in 2018, was “not trustworthy”.
