Ranchi: In a shocking turn of events, criminals in Jharkhand have escalated their activities by threatening Union Minister of State for Defence and Ranchi MP Sanjay Seth with a demand for ₹50 lakh as extortion. The minister reportedly received a threatening message on his mobile phone on Friday, warning of severe consequences if the amount is not paid within three days.

Taking the threat seriously, Sanjay Seth lodged an official complaint with the Delhi Police and the Director General of Police (DGP) in Jharkhand. Ranchi Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) met the minister to gather details and assured him of enhanced security measures.

Details of the Threat

According to reports, the threatening message was sent to Sanjay Seth’s personal mobile phone around 4 PM on Friday. The message explicitly demanded ₹50 lakh and warned of dire consequences if the payment was not made within the stipulated time.

Both Delhi Police and Jharkhand Police have launched an investigation into the incident. Authorities are tracing the origin of the message, suspecting the use of a spoofed or fake number. Cybercrime experts are also involved to uncover the source of the threat.

Heightened Security Measures

Following the incident, the minister’s security has been tightened. Officials confirmed that additional personnel have been deployed to ensure the safety of Sanjay Seth and his family. The police have also issued a high alert considering the sensitivity of the matter.

Political Reactions

The incident has created a stir in both state and central political circles. The threat to a Union minister has raised questions about the law-and-order situation in Jharkhand. Opposition parties have criticized the government, demanding stricter measures to curb criminal activities. Meanwhile, BJP leaders have called for swift and exemplary action against the perpetrators.

Connection to Past Incidents?

Jharkhand has witnessed a series of extortion and threat cases in recent years. While such incidents have often targeted local leaders and businessmen, this is one of the rare instances involving a Union minister. The event underscores a worrying trend of growing criminal audacity in the region.
