Veena Manvi Disqualified From Bankipur Bypoll: The Bankipur Assembly by-election in Patna has taken a fresh turn after the nomination of Veena Manvi, the candidate backed by Tej Pratap Yadav’s Jan Shakti Janata Dal, was rejected by the Returning Officer. The rejection has added more heat to a contest that is already drawing strong attention across Bihar. Veena Manvi had already been in the news because of the noise around her nomination, and reports also say she was detained or arrested soon after filing her papers.

Why were her Papers Rejected?

The reason is simple. Election rules say that an independent candidate, or a candidate from an unrecognised party, must submit nomination papers signed by 10 proposers. In Veena Manvi’s case, officials found only nine signatures. That meant her papers did not meet the required rule, so the Returning Officer rejected the nomination.
Tej Pratap calls it a Conspiracy
After the decision, Tej Pratap Yadav went to the Patna Collectorate and met the Returning Officer to ask why the nomination had been thrown out. He later said that his party believed there was a conspiracy against its candidate and that the rejection was done on purpose.
He also said the matter would be taken to court and expressed confidence that justice would be done through legal action.

Bankipur Bypoll
The Bankipur bypoll has already seen many twists. The seat fell vacant after BJP leader Nitin Nabin left it after being elevated to the Rajya Sabha. The BJP first named Abhishek Kumar Sinha, also known as Bunty, but he later withdrew, saying he had personal reasons. The party then put forward Neeraj Kumar Sinha. Jan Suraaj founder Prashant Kishor is also in the race, while the RJD has fielded Rekha Gupta. Voting for the seat is scheduled for July 30, and the contest is being watched closely because Bankipur has long been a BJP stronghold.
