JNU violence: Masked men attacks students and teachers at campus, know details

Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and Deputy Chief Minister Sachin Pilot have condemned the violence at JNU, saying that the fascists afraid of the voices of brave students. Hundreds of people shattered by the violence occurred at JNU and to express solidarity they staged a protest at several places on Sunday midnight, January 5, 2020 condemning the JNU violence.

According to media reports, over the violence, Home Minister Amit Shah has called Delhi L-G Anil Baijal, requesting him to call representatives from JNU to hold talks and discussions. Delhi police have detained four people who attacked JNU students and teachers, as per media reports.

Therefore, on Sunday night, violence broke out at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) in New Delhi. Masked men with sticks and rods attacked students and teachers and damaged campus property, prompting the administration to call the police which conducted a flag march.

Nearly two hours of disruption took place on campus with at least 28 people were injured, including Aishe Ghosh, president of the JNU Students’ Union, who was sent to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS).

Students from Aligarh Muslim University, Jadavpur University of Kolkata and Television Institute of India protested against JNU violence. Students in Hyderabad also staged demonstrations.

The impromptu protests began at midnight and continued into the morning at the Gateway of India near the IIT-Bombay campus in Powai, Mumbai. Protests took place in the FTII campus in Pune against the violence in Jawaharlal Nehru University.

AMU Teachers’ Association (AMUTA) condemned the violence and a march was held in the Sunday night to express solidarity with the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) students, who were attacked by masked men armed with sticks.

The Jadavpur University Teachers’Association (JUTA) on Sunday called upon all sections of society to condemn the “heinous act”.

In a statement, JUTA General Secretary Partha Pratim Roy urged the JNU authorities to restore normalcy, and the Central and Delhi governments to take “urgent action” to stop the “violence and bloodshed”.

The JNUSU alleged that students were attacked by ABVP members.
