Early years
The narrative began on June 8, 1933, with Joan Alexandra Molinsky. She was a Gemini born to Russian-Jewish immigrants in Brooklyn, New York. Consequently, she has Russian ancestry. Rivers appeared in an Off-Broadway production of “Driftwood” in the late 1950s. In 1965, she appeared alongside Jim Connell and Jake Holmes in their cabaret act “Jim, Jake & Joan” in the film “Once Upon a Coffee House” After her appearance on Johnny Carson’s “The Tonight Show,” where he told her she would become a star, her profile increased substantially as she made guest appearances on additional shows.
