JSW Jaecoo J5 Spy Shots: The upcoming JSW Jaecoo J5 has been seen testing in India once again and this time the fresh spy shots give a more detailed peek at both the outside and cabin design. These sightings, reported in recent weeks put together the clearest look yet at the SUV that is expected to show up as part of JSW Motors’ upcoming lineup under its partnership with the Chinese automaker Chery.
For the first time, the India-bound Jaecoo J5’s interior has been photographed almost completely uncovered. The dashboard closely mirrors the international-spec model, featuring a large portrait-oriented infotainment touchscreen that is expected to measure up to 14.8 inches on higher variants. A fully digital instrument cluster, minimalist dashboard layout, four-spoke steering wheel and floating centre console are also visible.

The cabin is expected to offer premium equipment such as wireless phone charging, ventilated front seats, a panoramic sunroof, ambient lighting, multiple USB ports and connected car technology. Depending on the variant, the SUV could also receive a Sony sound system and a 540-degree camera setup along with Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS).
Exterior

Although the test vehicles remain partially camouflaged, the Jaecoo J5’s overall design is now clearly visible. The SUV features an upright, boxy silhouette with flush-fitting door handles, slim LED lighting elements and squared wheel arches that give it a rugged appearance.

The electric version is distinguished by its closed-off front fascia, while the recently spotted petrol-powered model features a conventional grille. Both versions ride on stylish alloy wheels and maintain the same SUV proportions seen on the global model.

Multiple Powertrain Options Expected

Globally, the Jaecoo J5 is offered with electric, petrol and hybrid powertrains. Earlier reports suggested that JSW Motors was likely to introduce the electric version first. However, the latest sightings of an internal combustion engine model indicate that a strong-hybrid variant may also be under consideration for India.

The global EV uses a battery pack of around 60.9 kWh with a claimed driving range of up to 461 km under the NEDC cycle. Meanwhile, the hybrid version pairs a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine with an electric motor and dedicated hybrid transmission. Powertrain specifications for the India-bound model are yet to be officially confirmed.
India Launch Timeline and Price
JSW Motors is preparing to enter the Indian passenger vehicle market with a range of models sourced through its partnership with Chery Automobile. As of the latest industry estimates, JSW Jaecoo J5 is expected to be priced at:
- Petrol: ₹18 lakh – ₹20 lakh (ex-showroom)
- Hybrid: ₹20 lakh – ₹24 lakh (ex-showroom, estimated)
While some automotive portals broadly estimate a starting price of ₹18-22 lakh, the hybrid variant is expected to command a premium of around ₹2-4 lakh over the petrol version. Official pricing will only be confirmed closer to launch.
The Jaecoo J5 is expected to join the Jetour T2-based SUV and the iCar V23 as part of the company’s initial product lineup. Local assembly is likely to take place at JSW’s upcoming facility in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra. Transmission duties are handled by a DHT (Dedicated Hybrid Transmission) system.
