In a serious of resignations from the Congress party, now comes Congress general secretary Jyotiraditya Scindia who stepped down from his post on Sunday over party’s defeat in the Lok Sabha elections.

“Accepting the people’s verdict and taking accountability, I had submitted my resignation as General Secretary of AICC to Shri @RahulGandhi. I thank him for entrusting me with this responsibility and for giving me the opportunity to serve our party,” tweeted Scindia on Sunday evening.

Scindia resignation follows party’s Mumbai unit chief Milind Deora, and Indian Youth Congress chief Keshav Chand Yadav who resigned from his post earlier in the day.

Before the national elections, Rahul Gandhi had appointed Scindia and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra as in-charges for Uttar Pradesh to revive the party in the state that sends most number of lawmakers to parliament. The Congress, however, could win only one seat, with BJP winning 62 out of 80 seats in the state.
