One of the most awaited movies especially for Shahid Kapoor fans, Kabir Singh releases today. The film is an official remake of Telugu blockbuster Arjun Reddy. It charts the journey of a Short tempered doctor Kabir Singh (Shahid Kapoor) whose obsession with his girlfriend leads him on the path of self-destruction and darkness.

Kabir Singh is an aggressive, obsessive type of boyfriend who would go to any extreme length for his girl. For him, the best phrase to describe is either he is all in or nothing at all, that is evident from the immense power he wields. He is a topper in Delhi’s most reputed medical institutes and because of lethal anger issues, there are few who want to mess with him.

As soon as he sees his junior in college Preeti (Kiara Advani) he becomes a rebel with a cause. For him, it is love at first sight but the story is far beyond the cute romance and the typical romantic aura you get to see in the film.

There begins the real journey of his character into the deep dark side of chasing the love of his life. Shahid’s character is to showcase womanizing, drug addiction, alcoholism, male toxicity, and madness. Shahid has played the role with brutal honesty and it won’t be an overstatement to say that it is one of the best performances of the actor in his career so far. He has done sheer justice to his role and has grabbed the screen although the movie. In the screen space, he is although and no one comes close to the leading man, not even the woman he is in love with madly.

Kiara Advani looks lovely in the film but remains demure and is left to use silence as her tool. With such a limited scope, she doesn’t get the chance to shine in the film. Basically, the film is “Shahid” dominated.

Shiva who is Kabir’s trusted friend in the movie, however, got ample opportunity to show solid support when his friend is out of the way.

Talking about the remake angle of the film, it stays true to the original although better chemistry was seen in the original movie between the actors. While being equally intense, Kabir is a bit more humane than Arjun Reddy. He always shows up looking dapper in the worse of condition. That was the reason the prettiest girls including a heroine Jia (Nikita Dutta) falls for his charm.

The music of the film is charming, soothing and compliments the narrative of the film completely.

Overall Kabir Singh is an unconventional yet powerful romantic saga by Shahid and Kaira. The rebellious love story with the extreme of madness can be accepted if you believe that sometimes humans can also be deeply flawed.

Director Sandeep is an amazing storyteller and he has proved it with Kabir Singh. You can love him or hate him but you can’t ignore him and that is the reason what makes Kabir Singh watchable this weekend.
