Following the massive defeat of Bhartiya Janta Party in Karnataka by-polls, BJP’s central leadership is planning to remove BS Yeddyurappa from Karnataka BJP President post, a media report claimed on Thursday. In view of Lok Sabha elections 2019, Anant Kumar Hegde, BJP Member of Parliament (MP) from Uttara Kannada in Karnataka could be a possible replacement of BS Yeddyurappa, sources claimed. After 2014, Anant Hegde has been gaining limelight in political circles of Karnataka and New Delhi and also holds cordial relations with several central leaders of BJP.

A few days ago incumbent Congress and Janata Dal-Secular (JDS) alliance in Karnataka registered its victory in two assembly seats and two Lok Sabha seats in the Karnataka by-polls. The BS Yeddyurappa led Karnataka Bharatiya Janata Party managed to win only one Lok Sabha seat, Shimoga.

As per the sources, there were allegations against BS Yeddyurappa over denying opinions of senior state leaders and taking unilateral decisions on appointments to key positions of State BJP leadership.

Recently, Vice-President of Karnataka BJP MB Bhanuprakash was sacked from the post over violating the discipline of the party. Earlier, Bhanuprakash protested against BS Yeddyurappa over his decisions and actions towards the party. During a recent media interaction, Bhanuprakash stated that “The old guard wanted some changes in the way the party was being run. I raised my voice to ensure internal democracy in the party, for which I was sacked”.
