Kanakpura: A young leader of Janata Dal-Secular and state general secretary of Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe wing of the ruling party in the state was brutally killed by unidentified persons in Kanakpura police Station region on Monday evening.
Deceased RT Raja Gopal 42, from Kasaba Hobli, was the state General Secretary of JDS Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe Morcha in the Ramnagara district. He was also involved in real estate business.
The incident happened in the vicinity of his residence near a hotel where he was having tea. As per reports he came out of the hotel to answer a phone call and suddenly attacked by a group of unidentified assailants. He received multiple injuries on his neck and face and died on the spot, police said.
It is suspected that the assassination may have happened due to political hostility.
His body was later sent for postmortem and given back to his family. Raja Gopal is survived by his father, mother, wife, and brothers.
Following his death, local people and other JDS leaders held a protest demanding the arrest of accused immediately.
