Separatist leader Asiya Andrabi has been arrested by Jammu and Kashmir police under the public safety act, on late Wednesday night. Andrabi is the chief of the radical women’s outfit Dukhtaran-e-Millat (DeM). Reportedly, she was arrested from her home in Soura.

Andrabi, allegedly is the key separatist leader who provoked women in the valley to pelt stones at security forces. As per the reports, a few captured militants have said that videos of her speeches are shown at terror training camps across the LoC.

Wedded to Ashiq Hussain Faktoo, a Hizbul Mujahideen leader who, at present is in prison, she is the founder of a separatist organisation DeM. She is also the member of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference.

In 2015, the Jammu and Kashmir Police had arrested her from her residence in link with two cases including for waving Pakistani flag and for addressing a rally by Hafiz Saeed via phone in Pakistan. In the same year, she was also arrested for slaughtering a cow to deal with the beef ban issue.

Her arrest comes just before militants storm into an army camp in Kashmir’s Kupwara district and killed three soldiers, including an officer. This the second major attack on Indian forces in a just a week. 25 CRPF officials were killed in an encounter with Maoists in Chhattisgarh’s Sukma district on Monday.
