In a matter of time between life and death for a 15-year-old baby, an ambulance carrying a newborn child was taken from Mangaluru to Kochi in Kerala that covered a distance of 400 Kilometers.

After leaving the Mangaluru hospital around 11 am the baby reached the Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences in Kochi around 4:30 pm on Tuesday.

The whole journey of the ambulance was webcast live on Facebook to create awareness about the ambulance could be spread and people would make way for it.

The baby was taken through roadways as the doctors refused to give permission for the child to be taken from the airplane as the pressure variations would be harmful to the baby. He was taken on an urgent basis as a heart valve surgery has to be done.

The information about the child’s condition spread and many good supporters came to help clear the way for the ambulance. An NGO ‘Child Protect Team was also coordinating the safe and immediate transfer of the child.

“The child could not be airlifted due to pressure variations. There are high-tech ambulances to beat this but we don’t have them. Doctors gave the go-ahead after enough consultation and Sree Chithita Institute also gave a green signal,” said Sunil Malikkal of the NGO. The state government has said that it will bear all the expense of the child’s treatment.

Kerala chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan tweeted, “Every second is precious. I appeal to everyone to help baby reach the destination on time.”

The baby belongs to Sania and Mitha, a couple from Kasargode. The baby was undergoing treatment at a private hospital for a week. The transfer was made after the baby’s condition deteriorated on Monday night.

State Health Minister KK Shailaja said the government would provide all help to the baby.
