On the sixtieth anniversary of first communist government, Kerala police had arrested and manhandled the parents and relatives of Jishnu Prannoy who were protesting seeking justice for the 18-year old engineering student who was killed under mysterious circumstances.

Even after three month of the death of Jishnu at Pampadi Nehru College, most of the accused have not been arrested yet.

Mahija, Jishnu’s mother, along with others were staging a protest in front of the Kerala police headquarters in Thiruvananthapuram demanding the arrest of the culprits.

The police had denied the permission for the family to stage their protest and asked them to stage it 100 metres away from the headquarters.

However, the protesters refused the demand and most of them were forcefully arrested by the police.

Protesters alleged that women cops physically assaulted and dragged Jishnu’s mother during the half an hour police action. She was later taken to Nandavanam police camp and lodged with others.

Some of the protesters have been admitted to a hospital following the assault.

Earlier, the police had arrested the chairman of Nehru group, P Krishnadas, and released him after a 5-hours long interrogation. Jishnu’s family had called it as a drama and called off an agitation against police’s inaction.
