Dog Bites in Kerala: A street play in Kannur, Kerala went very wrong when a stray dog bit an actor during a performance. The drama, called ‘Pekkolam’, was held at the P Krishnappilla Library in Kandankai on Sunday. The play was meant to create awareness about the growing stray dog problem in the state, but ironically the actor became a victim of the very issue he was performing about.

The incident happened while actor P Radhakrishnan was running across the stage with a stick in hand, pretending to escape from a dog. Suddenly, a black stray dog appeared and bit him on the leg. People in the audience panicked, and one person quickly ran forward waving a slipper to scare the dog away. Despite all the chaos, Radhakrishnan was hurt before anyone could help him.

Eyewitnesses told NDTV that the bite occurred just as a barking sound effect played through the microphone. The sound may have confused or provoked the dog. Remarkably, the actor did not stop performing. He continued the scene where he played a father mourning his daughter after a dog attack. Many in the audience thought his acting was very realistic and did not realize he was actually bitten.

Public Concern Grows

After the play, Radhakrishnan was taken to a hospital for treatment. The incident has made people in Kannur angry again because stray dog attacks are becoming more common. Residents have criticized local authorities for not taking strong action despite repeated problems.

Reports say that in June, at least 21 people were attacked by stray dogs in Kannur. Just a few days before this play, another 50 people were bitten in different attacks, causing protests and fear among locals. Many people are calling for better control of stray dogs to prevent more injuries.
