NEW DELHI: Kerala students will now be able to earn for 90 days per year while they learn. The Kerala Cabinet is all set to implement a policy that allows students aged between 18-25 to earn honoraria through part-time work while they study on Thursday, February 5.

“Work as you study” is a point we can observe in the chief minister’s 12-point development programme. As per the official statements, the state government will take a time-bound action plan for this.

The policy motives to include government departments, local bodies, public and private enterprises.

In this policy, the state cabinet will allow the agencies and establishments that implement this programme to earmark 15 % of their expenditure on wages to pay honoraria to these students. The Department of Labour and Skills will be the nodal agency for implementing it.

As per the statement, the students will be allowed to work part-time, following a schedule that does not hamper their studies. Therefore, it is yet unclear about the details of who can opt for this.
