A few days ago, a video of Kerala transwoman, Sajana Shaji was doing rounds on internet. Shaji has been hospitalised after overdosing on medicines in an attempt to suicide today, a Malayalam Daily reported.
The transwoman received support from the public after this and many offered financial assistance to her after in the viral video she revealed that she was harassed by local shopkeepers for selling Biryani to meet her ends during the pandemic.
Shaji said that she was harassed by a man called Gireesh who sells fish snacks opposite her stall. To drive away her customers, Gireesh had been spreading rumours about the quality of her biryani. This resulted in massive losses for the biryani shop. Shaji had even provided employment to four other transwomen and was managing to make a living.
Crying in the video Shaji said in her Facebook Live that her shop usually sold 300 packets of biryani a day. But after the rumours, out of 150 packets of biryani, her shop could only sell 20. Complaining about the amount of food wasted, Shaji said, “People keep asking us to work and live a decent life, instead of begging on trains and roaming the streets at night. But if the society does not allow us to work respectfully, then what are we supposed to do”.

However, a few audio clips were circulated widely the other day claiming to be recorded by Sajana wherein she can be heard saying that she played a drama in order to get money for the construction of her house.
Followed by the reaction of social media on her viral audio clips, Sajana Shaji attempted to suicide today and has been hospitalised. Currently, Sajana is undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Ernakulam.
