Pune: More than 200 farmers were taken into custody by the Dhule district police on Tuesday while they were reaching from Nashik to Dhule.
Ajit Navale, All India Kisan Sabha general secretary was among the ones who were booked for participating in the farmers’ meeting which had taken place in Ahmednagar.
This is the second occasion in a year when over 50,000 farmers would be going through a nine-day-long journey, starting from Nashik to Mumbai for voicing their protest against the governments at the Centre and at the state.
Organised by the CPI-M’s peasant wing All India Kisan Sabha (AIKS), the march has attracted farmers from all over the state, including many women, and will end after 200 km in Mumbai on February 27, coinciding with the Budget Session of the Legislature.
