Mumbai airport’s two runways to remain shut for six hours today. With the main and secondary runways having no take-off or landings air passengers departing or arriving the city airport may face difficulties on Tuesday. The airport runways are shut for some maintenance and repair work from 11:00 am to 05:00 pm.
Mumbai airport is to undertake maintenance and repair work in two phases between October and February-march period. Around 300 flights are expected to be affected due to the no operation on runways.
“Mumbai airport runway will be closed from 1100 hours to 1700 hours IST. Please visit Air India website, app or contact call centre for details on rescheduled and cancelled flights,” tweeted Air India airline on Monday.

Flights of other carriers will also be affected due to the shut runways.
“Due to the work, both the runways 09/27 and 14/32 will remain shut for operations between 11 am and 5 pm on October 23,” said Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL) on October 04.

The second phase repair and maintenance work is scheduled for some day in between February 7 and March 30, most probably on March 21 and the runway will not be operational from 11:00 am to 05:00 pm. However, the primary runway is expected to handle up to 50 arrivals and departures. On an average, the Mumbai airport manages around 1,000 departures and take-offs of flights every day.
