New Balance argued that they had triggered a "matching clause" in their current contract with the club, which would see them continue as the kit supplier.

Liverpool FC have won their legal battle over a multimillion-pound sponsorship deal with the US sports brand New Balance. The European champions were dragged to court over alleged refusal to honour a deal, which expires in May 2020.

New Balance argued that they had triggered a “matching clause” in their current contract with the club, which would see them continue as the kit supplier.

But Liverpool said that New Balance could not match Nike’s five-year deal of £30m a year in terms of marketing.

The decision at London’s Commercial Court on Friday turned in favour of Liverpool, who are now free to fulfil their arrangement with Nike at the expiry of the deal with New Balance.
