Mayawati sets tone for break up with SP, will contest by-elections

A day after various Lok Sabha exit polls predicted gains for the SP-BSP Mahagathbandhan in Uttar Pradesh, Akhilesh Yadav called on Mayawati in Lucknow on Monday.

According to the Times Now-VMR the NDA is winning 58 seats. Republic-Jan Ki Baat, states that the alliance could win anywhere between 46 to 57 seats. The Times Now CVoter has given BJP+ 38 seats, Gathbandhan 40 seats, the ABP Nielsen said the gathbandhan is winning 56 seats, BJP 22. While in most of the exit polls, Congress is winning 2 seats.

In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party had sealed a remarkable 71 seats out of 80 with then ruling party in the state Samajwadi Party getting just 5 seats. After the coming together of Samajwadi Party and Bahujan Samaj Party, a tough contest expected in India’s most populous state. Any significant gain by the gathbandhan will mean lowering of the BJP’s tally in Uttar Pradesh.
