New Delhi: Former Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Suresh Chandel is likely to join the Congress party on Tuesday, 26 March. Reportedly, Chandel met several key Congress leaders in New Delhi on Monday.

Chandel was a member of the 12th, 13th and 14th Lok Sabha, representing the Hamirpur constituency of Himachal Pradesh. He was state president of Himachal BJP from 1998-2000.

While, the BJP has fielded Anurag Thakur from the Hamirpur Lok Sabha constituency, who won the General elections from here three times in a row.

Another former BJP leader, Ghanshyam Tiwari is likely to join the Congress party in Jaipur on Tuesday. Tiwari could join the grand old party in the presence of party chief Rahul Gandhi, who is scheduled to meet party workers in Jaipur’s Ramlila Maidan on Tuesday, March 26. Tiwari quit from the BJP in June 2018, following which he floated Bharat Vahini Party ahead of the 2018 Rajasthan Assembly elections. In the elections, he had unsuccessfully contested from Sanganer seat.

The Lok Sabha elections in Himachal Pradesh will take place in Phase VII, May 19. The last date for filing nomination form is April 29, while the candidates can withdraw their application by May 2. The vote counting for the elections will take place 4 days after the poll, i.e. on May 23.
