New Delhi: Girijaj Singh, Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises, has refused to contest from Begusarai Lok Sabha constituency after he was denied ticket by NDA to contest from Nawada, a seat from which he is an incumbent MP.

Reportedly, party senior party leaders, including Bhupendra Yadav, who is National General Secretary of BJP and MP Nityanand Rai tried to convince the minister, but Giriraj lashed out at them, blaming both the leaders for changing his Nawada seat.

On the other side, the CPI on Sunday formally announced former Jawaharlal Nehru University Students Union (JNUSU) President Kanhaiya Kumar as its candidate for Begusarai seat. State CPI Secretary Satyanarayan Singh said, “Kanhaiya will be the CPI candidate from Begusarai.”

The announcement came two days after the Grand Alliance of RJD, Congress and other parties did not allocate Begusarai to the Communist Party of India (CPI). The RJD is set to field Tanweer Hasan, who unsuccessfully contested from Begusarai in 2014.

Kanhaiya Kumar told the media here on Sunday that his main fight will be against Giriraj Singh, not against the RJD.
