Kamal Nath, hours after swearing in as the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh signed on papers for farm loan waivers.

According to the order, the Madhya Pradesh government has waived off the outstanding loans of farmers up to Rs 2 lakhs. The loans must have been availed from nationalised and government banks situated in Madhya Pradesh as short-term crop debt noted by 31 March 2018.

In the run-up to the elections in the 3 states of Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, the Congress Chief Rahul Gandhi had said that he would change the Chief Minister if they don’t waive off farmer loans in ten days after the coming of election results.

Gandhi recently tweeted acknowledging Madhya Pradesh government’s decision to waive the farmer loans.

Earlier today, several opposition leaders were present at the swearing-in ceremony of Madhya Pradesh chief minister Kamal Nath today.

DMK leader MK Stalin, Andhra Pradesh CM and TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu, NC leader Farooq Abdullah, Karnataka CM and JD(S) leader HD Kumaraswamy, Congress president Rahul Gandhi, JD(U) leader Sharad Yadav, Congress leader Jyotiraditya Scindia, senior Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge, and Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot were among the leaders who attended the ceremony.
