Madhya Pradesh Polls: Voters details available at less than 1 rupee in Bhopal

As the polling date is coming near in Madhya Pradesh, the state is witnessing different types of negative activities and the latest one came from Bhopal, where details of lakhs of voters with their mobile phone numbers are openly available for sale. The shop belongs to an Ahmedabad resident Shyam Bhai Jhandewala, which is providing vital data of voters’ lists at a very cheap price, however, data is already available online.

As per the sources, an election paraphernalia store near to the BJP headquarters in Bhopal is selling mobile phone numbers of lakhs of voters to call and text voters. The shop is providing details of all the 230 constituencies of Madhya Pradesh and the actual business of shop is to provide flags, posters, handbills, pamphlets and T-shirts related to elections.

As per the rates of the shop,

Age, region and community-indexed numbers are available for 10 paise per voter.

A coloured voters’ slip for a single assembly is available for 30 paise.

Speaking on the lines of the issue, VL Kantha Rao, the chief electoral officer of Madhya Pradesh, said “We’ll act when a complaint is received. Also, if there’s a case of IT Act violation, the police will take action”.
