The family of a 19-year-old girl, who died on Saturday, donated her heart, liver and kidneys on Monday.

Pratibha Vijaychand Nishad’s body was found on the tracks between Vile Parle and Santacruz railway stations on Saturday. She was a fashion designing student.

“We received information that a girl had been spotted lying near the railway tracks and rushed there. We are yet to find out how the incident took place,” said Prasad Pandhare, senior police inspector of Andheri GRP.

She was rushed to a nearby hospital and later shifted to Nanavati hospital where she succumbed to her injuries on Saturday. Thereafter, her parents decided to donate her heart, kidneys and liver.

“One of the kidneys and a liver were given to a person while the other kidney was given to another patient. Her heart could not be used due to some issue,” said an organ coordinator from Nanavati hospital.

“My sister will not come back. She left us at a very young age. We can do anything for our country. When my family was told that her organs could save lives, we did not think twice before agreeing to it. We are happy she could do something for the countrymen”, said her brother, Shubham Nishad, as quoted by HT.

Chief operating officer (COO) of Nanavati hospital, Dr. Rajendra Patankar, told HT, “The girl’s parents have done a noble thing. Even in such a terrible situation, they thought of doing something good for humanity. They have given two people a second chance at life. Awareness on organ donation is required in our country.”
