Maharashtra Local Body Election 2025: Maharashtra is preparing for its municipal council and nagar panchayat elections that will take place next month. These polls will cover 246 municipal councils and 42 nagar panchayats across the state. Officials said that around 66,775 staff members will work during the election. This includes 288 returning officers and their assistants who will handle the voting process and make sure everything runs fine.

The state follows the Panchayati Raj system in rural areas. This system has three levels of local government. The Gram Panchayat works at the village level, the Panchayat Samiti manages the block level, and the Zilla Parishad works at the district level.
In the town the nagar parishad or municipal council looks after smaller urban regions. It handles things like local governance and town development. A nagar panchayat is for places that are slowly changing from rural life to urban life. These areas usually have a population between 12,000 and 40,000.
Important Dates For Maharashtra Polls
The final dates for filing nominations for these local body elections are now set. Candidates can submit their nomination papers until November 17. After that, the papers will go through checking on November 18. Those who want to withdraw their names can do so until November 21.
The final list of candidates and their election symbols will be announced on November 26, according to PTI.

The voting day for the elections is December 2. People will cast their votes through EVMs to choose 6,859 members and 288 presidents in all the councils and nagar panchayats. PTI reported these details. Counting of votes will take place on December 3. Out of the total 6,859 seats, 3,492 are reserved for women, 895 are kept for Scheduled Castes, 338 for Scheduled Tribes, and 1,821 for OBCs.
Many major political parties in Maharashtra will take part in these elections. These include BJP, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), Shiv Sena (UBT), NCP (SP), Congress, Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi (VBA), and the Rashtriya Samaj Party (RSP).
