Nagpur: On Thursday when the whole world was waiting for the International Women’s Day, a Situbuldi-based social organisation, Matru Seva Sangh (MSS), in a shocking incident asked for essays on the topic ‘Stree Purush Samante Mude Udvasth Sansar’ (loosely translates as ‘Women-Men Equality Causing Ruined Families’) for their magazine ‘Masik’.
Soon, in a damage control activity, the workers of the unit, which is involved in social work changed the topic to ‘Stree Purush Equality Samajacha Hitachi’ (Women-men equality in interest of society), read a TOI report.
The essay contest was put in place for women whose age is between 18 and 35 years on the occasions of the International Women’s Day.
Celebrated since the early 1900’s, International Women’s Day also heralds gender equality. This years theme for the day is “Think equal, build smart, innovate for change”
Women’s day had it roots from the 1908 America when women asked for “Voting rights”. In 1910, Clara Zetkin – leader of the ‘women’s office’ for the Social Democratic Party in Germany suggested that every country should celebrate women on one day every year to push for their demands.
