In an upcoming biography on Parveen Babi by Karishma Upadhyay, Mahesh Bhatt has recalled his times with Parveen Babi and how he got drown to her.
Mahesh Bhatt has recalled that Parveen Babi was the girlfriend of his friend Kabir Bedi, however, their relationship hit rock bottom. The actress, after her trip to London, was trying to rebuild her career and called producer Mahesh Bhatt home for a casual chat. That’s when their story began. Recalling that there was gloom around Parveen Babi, an excerpt from the book has Mahesh Bhatt mentioning, “That evening started off [with] two friends catching up but the conversation kept getting deeper and the silences got comfortable. The attraction between us was palpable,” as reported by Mumbai Mirror.
Mahesh Bhatt a married man with a daughter stated that he was ‘held back by morality’ and when he decided to leave, he realised that Parveen Babi had not come to the door to see him off. When at door, he heard her call his name and when at the bedroom door, Mahesh Bhatt shared, “She was lying there on the bed, waiting for me. There was complete silence, because there was no need for words anymore,” as per an excerpt from the book.
Another incident that Mahesh Bhatt opened up about was when he realised that something was wrong with Parveen Babi.
“Here she was, curled up on the floor like a beast in one corner of the room.” Adding “She was still in her film costume. She was holding a knife; it was the knife she used at the breakfast table,” reads an excerpt. As Mahesh Bhatt walked up to her, Parveen Babi stated that “they tried to kill me” and named Amitabh Bachchan. “You don’t know; you are an innocent man. They are going to drop a chandelier on me,” she said, recalled Mr Bhatt.
