March 2025 Social Security Payment: Some people who receive Social Security benefits might notice that their payment dates are a little different than usual. Do not worry, this is not a mistake. The changes happen because of how the dates fall on the Social Security calendar.

Most Social Security payments go out on Wednesdays each month. The exact Wednesday depends on your birthday. For example, if your birthday is between the 1st and 10th of the month, you will get paid on the second Wednesday. If your birthday is between the 11th and 20th, you will get paid on the third Wednesday, and so on.

SSI Payments Coming Early in March 2025

For those who receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI), the payment for March 2025 will arrive on Friday, February 28. Normally, SSI payments go out on the first of the month. But when the first falls on a weekend or a federal holiday, the payment is sent early.

About 7.4 million Americans receive SSI benefits. These are people who may have disabilities, are elderly, or have limited income and resources. Around half of SSI recipients also get Social Security benefits. Since almost all payments are made electronically, the March 2025 SSI payment should show up on February 28. If you do not see your payment on that day, the Social Security Administration suggests waiting three extra days before contacting them.

The Social Security Administration’s yearly distribution schedules for 2025 and 2026 are available online so that you can use the calendar for budgeting purposes.

Regular Social Security retirement benefits will be sent out on the SSA’s usual schedule:

Wednesday, March 12: Birth dates between the 1st and 10th of the month.
Wednesday, March 19: Birth dates between the 11th and the 20th of the month.
Wednesday, March 26: Birth dates between the 21st and the 31st of the month.

SSI recipients will not get another payment in March. Their next payment will arrive on April 1.

Supplemental Security Income (SSI) helps people who are 65 or older, blind, or have a qualifying disability. It also helps children with disabilities. To qualify, adults usually need to have very low income and resources, less than $2,019 per month.
