Maruti Suzuki Plans to Introduce EV in Indian Market by 2025

EV in Indian Market: Maruti Suzuki, the top-selling automaker in India, has stated that it has no immediate intentions to introduce an affordable electric vehicle option. According to RC Bhargava, chairman of Maruti Suzuki India, the market for electric vehicles costing less than Rs 10 lakh will be insignificant.

Bhargava identified practicality as a significant concern for prospective customers, as charging electric vehicles on a regular basis could prove difficult. In addition, he emphasised that a sizeable proportion of car purchasers may lack the prerequisites for EV ownership, such as access to a dedicated parking space with a charging device.

Maruti Suzuki Plans to Introduce EV in Indian Market

Initially, Maruti Suzuki does not intend to offer affordable electric vehicles, but the company is expected to launch its first electric vehicle on the Indian market by 2025. This electric vehicle will target the segment of midsize SUVs. By 2031, Maruti Suzuki plans to introduce up to six new electric vehicles.

On public roads, the upcoming Maruti Suzuki electric vehicle based on the eVX concept has been observed undergoing testing. The test mule featured alloy wheels with a conventional appearance, but it is anticipated that the production model will feature alloy wheels with a more fashionable appearance. The SUV’s rear door handles are integrated into the C-pillar, and its rearview reflectors resemble those found on the Baleno.

The production version of the Suzuki eVX will be based on a brand-new dedicated electric platform and will feature a 60kWh battery cell with a range between 500 and 520 kilometres. The vehicle is anticipated to have dimensions of 4.3 metres in length, 1.8 metres in breadth, and 1.6 metres in height.

Once introduced, the Maruti Suzuki electric vehicle will compete with other forthcoming electric SUVs on the Indian market, such as the Hyundai Creta Electric, Mahindra XUV400, MG ZS EV, and the production-ready Tata Curvv Electric.
